My 9 year old Rotti, Hercules, was recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. From what I?
understand this is a very rare form and the chance of survival even with treatment is not an option. Usually from diagnosis the time given is 2 days to 3 weeks. Hercules has survived out 5 weeks. I chose not to do chemo because more than half of the dogs treated this way for this form of leukemia die within the 1st week from the treatment alone. I opted for antibiotic and prednisone therapy. The prednisone definetly increased his appetite the first 4 weeks, but now he will not even eat steak or turkey. A week before Hercules was diagnosed , I lost my 12 year old chocolate lab to diabetes, I am having a hard time making the decision to put Hercules down, but he has grown so weak and seems so unhappy. Does anyone have any experience in dealing with a dog who has had acute lymphoblastic leukemia? I need some support, I dont want him to suffer, but I want him to have a fair chance. Anyone with any feedback please answer?!
