Ever get the feeling marriage was invented by the female ?

Many, many years ago, before society permitted women to be financially independent, marriage was a necessity to make sure they survived. I don't think a group of women got together and said "Let's invent marriage," I think that it sort of developed on its own. In some ways it benefitted women and in a lot of ways it benefitted men.
